Don't worry. None of this blood is mine.

The Thrill of Deskhood

A few people have asked me what my desk looks like, specifically in regards to how I mentioned I have a bunch of archive stuff on my walls.

To sate that minor curiosity, here’s my desk and one of those walls. This is about 1/4 of the archive stuff I use as hideous, geeky wallpaper.

Yes, yesterday it was a WoW desktop background. It is currently a Judge Dredd one.

As you can see, the Blood Reaver document that’s open is being edited, rather than added to. That’s why the novel is so late, and something I’m trying to fix today while I can still remain awake, fuelled by coffee and panic.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to do an insane amount of work. Like a big boy.

  1. It actually is fascinating. Those are several editions’ worth of Chaos fluff on the walls, is it not? Love the Clone Trooper mug, too; guess we’ll skip getting you the 15oz Bolter & Chainsword one. πŸ˜‰

    • Actually, let me amend, that’s not a Clone Trooper, that’s a Stormtrooper from the limited edition line from 1995, isn’t it? The ones that aren’t dishwasher/microwave safe?

  2. Really looking forward to Blood Reaver! Best of luck with the writing, I know what you mean about panic. I’ve just recently been up against deadlines, the panic doesn’t help, it just freezes my mind.

You may want to consider mixing whiskey with the coffee to balance out the panic inducing caffeine with alcohol…actually that sounds like a one way ticket to rehab πŸ™‚

  4. Awesome that you got the Index Astartes on Word Bearers up on the wall! ^^

  5. Might want to skip on the Caffeine since it is a CNS stimulant… although Phillip might have the right idea by mixing in some alcohol since it is a CNS depressant.

And it is awesome to see that you have something about Black Templars on your wall.

    • Most of my Armageddon / Black Templar jazz is on the next wall along, and most of it is in colour, too. I have the map from the old board game up there, which is quirky-looking, but pleasant to stare at.

      • I envy you… especially with your easy access to archived content. Can we get pictures of the other walls?

  6. I’m always surprised at how tidy your desk is. Even that empty carton of juice is tidy.

    But there are two questions:

What are you listening to on Spotify?

And is that Talos underneath your monitor?

  7. A Clone Trooper mug?

You loose at life! Standard Stormtroopers are WAY better and I’ll punch anyone who dares suggests differently!

  8. Aaron how do you feel about the new Cata “events” in wow, if you been playing?

I think it really impresive with the capital citys under attack by the elements.

  9. How do you keep your PC secure from unwanted fan-theft whilst using Windows?
I thought this was stormtrooper mug however I have a low geek-rating.

  10. Are You ready for the mini to go under the other Monitor?
Do you want Argel-Tal or the Custodes?
I am very very pleased to hear you are pitching for the World Eaters.
    I hope you get it.

  12. Oh cool πŸ™‚ I’m glad I’m not the only one who pins stuff to the walls when I write.

Just curious, as you write books for Black Library do you write in the standard Courier New, double spaced? Or as a Black Library writer do you write in a different font/format? And is the manuscript all one flowing document? Or is each chapter an individual document?

  13. “For the Dark Lady!”

So anyway you also got yourself bookshelves just dedicated to a growing library of 40k and other literature for references? And journals filling up with (random) notes, names, ideas etc.?

  14. I randomly thought you may find it interesting to know that I saw a copy of First Heretic at a local gaming store, and they don’t carry a lot of gaming-related novels.

  15. Where do your legs go when you sit at that desk? Do you sit side-saddle? πŸ˜‰
