That was well-written. Well done. I think this is the first non-Abnett BL book I’m going to preorder. I’m looking forward to the U.S. release.

I agree a bit, if this is what you mean. The first 5 HH books were very good, then some were somehow less, and the series needed to get a bit back to the old and central story line, at least for 2 or 3 novels.
But a Thousand sons did that, I think. Much of interwining with the central storyline, which was one of the best things in this series !

One author ( I thought ADB ) said this was discussed on an heresy meeting.
But ( starting the old discussion once again ), I cannot believe the Emperor’s Children had only 10.000 marines, even if they were a small legion. Such few ? And the word bearers 10 times as much or more ?
This would mean some legions are VERY important, others AREN’T.
Amazing stuff! ADB is almost definitely the best Black Library author, and this is just so atmospheric. Can’t wait for the book! This looks like it may be as good as the first 2 HH books…
Unholy Dark Mechanicum that was awesome to read. I do especially like how the normal Space Marines in the Word Bearer’s legion have this thing with looking at Primarchs. That is really cool.

Well, not an easy question, but PERHAPS it is, in my opinion !!! And that’s really a compliment for this piece of work, and I’m not exaggerating ….
Really, this sample extract had me nailed to the chair …., eyes just focused on the lap top screen, all world around me fully disappeared.
It was GREAT, and perhaps rivalling Dan’s piece from Horus Rising ….
Looking forward to First Heretic now more than ever !

Wel sycopat, there are some novels you can read later.
Fallen angels for example, or A thousand sons, those are definitely novels you can read at a later time.

The thing I love most is that it’s to the point.
ADB’s writing style doesn’t get lost in overt descriptions.
There’s just enough of everything to give you a sense of what’s going on and the type of characters involved.
I could feel Lorgars patheticness oozing through the page, the desperation to make his case a viable one, the indifference of Guilliman and concerned nature of Malcador.
That is easily one of the best excerpts I’ve read and I cannot wait to have the book in my hands.

I traditionally hate the Word Bearers, but then again I hated the Night Lords and Black Templars as well. These days I’d be quite happy as the meat in a Talos and Grimmy sandwich, ifyouknowwhatimean…
Great stuff – I love that the series isn’t published in chronological order but rather tends to jump back and forth in order to reveal previous events and details. Can’t wait to read the whole thing – I’m pretty curious what role Erebus will play.
“Throne Of Lies” is being delivered right now. As soon as I got my fingers on it I’ll probably play it to pieces. I just hope it’ll last until November.

Wicked! absolutely. I had fallen out of love with HH for a while, but this extract brought me back with a left hook. This scene sets up the classic hatred between the ultras and the wordbearers that would overflow in the heresy. ADB you have outdone yourself, and yes you have successfully captured that atmosphere of wonder and danger that made Horus rising the classic it is.
