Aaron Dembski-Bowden

Don't worry. None of this blood is mine.

Pre-Chicago

Heading to Chicago for 6 days. Some things to note:

  • That penguin above is on a mission. I mean, just look at him. He has somewhere to be. The little fucker’s on a quest.
  • The First Heretic is at the halfway mark.
  • I listened to Throne of Lies today. I was actually nervous and hesitant about it beforehand, but Christ, it was so fucking good. Enjoyed it a whole bunch.
  • People keep asking me about my Adepticon schedule. I don’t think there is one. It’s 3 full days, and no one knows who I am yet, so I suspect my schedule will largely involve sitting there, looking like I want to be somewhere else. I do that very well.
  • Doing some podcasts, I think.
  • We’re leaving in about 8 hours, and I haven’t packed yet.
  • All day, I’d been planning to do a huge and worthwhile post to tide the blog over for a week.
  • That’s not really happening.
  • It’s almost like I’m using bullet points to make it look like I have a list of things to say.
  • Suckers.

  1. I have to admit, the bullet points got one over on me!

And no worries, I am likable and Jay is HUGE!!! (he’s a giant, it almost looks like I am that guy running from the giant on the fantasy giant base!)…. you will want to do a podcast.

And Katie should know your going to the midwest. Its not like the bad parts of the USA, its the midwest where everyone is kinda nice.

      • You say that John, but are you, are you really? 😉

Don’t listen to them Aaron, Midwesterners lul you into a false sense of security. They buy you drinks, share their meals, and then…

Okay fine they are actually pretty nice.

  2. Read Soul Hunter last week, and liked the slight nod to Metallica that you managed to throw in there. Good job.

    • It might have just been a co-incidence but i noticed a nod to the awesome old cartoon Transformers movie in Soul Hunter, page 48. The movie with the Stan Bush soundtrack, that penguin could actually be marching to ‘Dare’ as his theme music. Am i right ADB or was it a co-incidence? The book was awesome……more!

  3. I hope you have fun! I still can’t believe the one time you’re in the Midwest and I’m out in Boston. Clever, clever, Mr. Dembski-Bowden!

  4. That is one bad ass penguin… Awesome to hear about The First Heretic. Right now Im reading A Thousand Sons.

I got a question, in Cadian Blood, was there any particular reason why you choose to write about a Cadian regiment?

And a second question, do you collect any army of yourself in the 40k universe?

    • He collects. Totally collects. He’s just the SLOWEST PAINTER KNOWN TO MAN KIND! However, I must admit, when he finishes a model it looks absolutely brilliant! So, slowness is forgiven.

Aaron! I wish I were out there in Canada right now because I’d gladly come and see you down there! =(

      Safe travels sir! ^..^

  6. The penguin is clearly looking for the Blood Ravens lost primarch.

Enjoy Chicago! I think you’ll be more popular than you realise. Why podcasts you going on?

  7. “no one knows who I am yet” – yeah, didn’t you think the same thing about BLL, then your seer council session was the 2nd or 3rd filled?!

    “Happy Feet” meets “Reservoir Dogs”.

  8. Aw. Penguins are awesome. They’re birds that act like fish and look like little nuns.

“6.The penguin is clearly looking for the Blood Ravens lost primarch.” He’ll be pretty much sorted once he’s read A Thousand Sons then, pretty clever way to wrap that one up without actually stating it outright.

When is Throne of Lies actually out? If it’s done and First Heretic is only half way, I’m assuming it’s going to be the next couple of months. Unless, either me or Amazon have the date for First Heretic completely wrong.

Also, don’t stay up drinking just because you’ve managed to add about 7 hours to your day. It’s bonus time, but not free time. Saw Dave Gorman Saturday just gone, he’s got a funny story about that. It involves voice activated lifts; remind me when I see you next.

  9. Aaron, I know I probably already missed you, but you know if you really are that board you can just hang with us the whole time. And by us I mean the podcast crew from DLT, the Warbanner, and Gamers Lounge, we’d love to have you.

  12. After having the pleasure of drinking with you I had to pick up both Cadain blood and Soul Hunter when I got home. You are one of the coolest people I met over that weekend and with out a doubt the most well spoken. Also I have to apologize for getting your name wrong the next afternoon (that delvan mud is dangerous).

Good luck n your future endeavors and hope to have the pleasure of meeting you again
