…Grant Monteath was nice enough to take the time to reply with what history will surely judge as the best comment ever made on my blog:
Dear Grant,
I think I love you.
Sincerely,
A.

Im beginning to think you have issues and mistakes peoples feelings towards you.
Or are you from a pararell universe where that is a compliment? ^^
While I do admire the vitriol’s poetic elegance, mostly I think it rocks because I’ve never been called a vile twat before, let alone over something so silly. I’ll buy him a beer if we cross paths. He can tell me why the Enterprise could totally take a Star Destroyer in a fight, or whatever.
Ahh understandable.
I have to say that I’ve never laughed so hard at something related to Star Trek (the posts – not this particular comment). I like Star Trek but the points you make are so true!
Bless. now if you started posting things like that about Stargate or Battlestar i may have to be ‘nice’. As it is, i’ll agree with you.
I don’t really know much about Stargate, and I can’t think of anything particularly thrilling to say about the BSG reboot, so they’d be a long time in coming. The only reason I can make stupid rants about Star Trek is because I watched it for so many years. Absolutely loved TNG and DS9 way back when.
Only a true fan can rant convincingly. Also DS9 was great.
Mmmph
I love Star Trek, but I find your posts hilarious, and mostly correct. You have to suspend your disbelief with all TV series, or heck, all stories, so in some ways I guess I just accept some of the more ridiculous aspect. It’s like forgiving that great friend of yours who sometimes says bizarrely inappropriate things around your parents. Or something.
That would be me…. My friends don’t like me around their parents or spouses
don’t know why..
This gentleman clearly deserves a scholarship at a high end university due to his sheer talent at using a fine vocabulary and describing his disagreement with your opinions so well Mr. Dembski-Bowden. He’d go far in journalism or politics as a public speaker…
Personally I love Star Trek and I also agree with your evidence at its flaws, certainly made me chuckle whilst I should have been working this summer.
Ummm how exactly does one type as though they are “talking” with a cock in their mouth? Also, i like to imagine his comment being read out by Patrick Stewart. If Picard can’t make that sound like a classy argument that perhaps a rethink is required, Grant.
On the escapist website, Yahtzee just posted an article about 40k’s background being in his opinion, “juvenile rubbish”. I was heartened to see a fair few well thought out pro 40k comments, ppl respectfully disagreeing with him…..and more than a few comments like the original poster. I guess no universe pleases everyone but just ranting at people won’t change any minds.
As exotic as the original is, this needs to be shared:
French- “Vous parlez comme si vous avez une bite dans la bouche.”
Turkish- “Eğer ağzınızda bir horoz var gibi konuştuğunuz.”
Welsh- “Ydych yn siarad fel petai gennych ceiliog yn eich ceg.”
Haitian Creole- “Ou pale tankou si ou gen yon kòk chante nan bouch ou.”
Make friends with non-english speakers the Alloa way. Or get people beaten severely when they try to order a beer in Welsh. “The Welsh for ‘two pints, please?’ That’s ‘ydych yn siarad fel petai…’”
This is grand.
Though I agree, Star Wars is better than Star Trek, but Deep Space 9 was pretty darn good…at least the latter seasons when war and intrigue were the norm and the whole storyline was very dark.
Now note, I’m saying Star Wars Episodes IV, V, and VI are better than Star Trek.
In my little world Episodes I, II, and III do not exist
Episode III wasn’t god awful. It was certainly better than watching a bunch of midget stuffed teddy bears defeat an entire legion of the Emperor’s best troops with sticks and stones. And I am still in shock that a freaking A-Wing managed to crash into and blow up the Executor. Poor Admiral Piett. At least Vader didn’t have to force choke his ass.
It’s a compliment where he comes from. Be honoured.
I expect you will get more of these types of comments now…
TNG was good, the rest shit. Patrick Stewart facerolled everything. Though sci-fi such as ST gets really lame compared to the epic 40K universe.
Incredible! Best comment… ever.
Also, @ Daniel D: Deep Space 9 was actually pretty tight too. I didn’t realise this for a long time until I ended up watching entire series on telly at 5 in the morning every day a few years ago.
Hi grant here…
Dude, I owe you the drink of your choice, whenever we cross paths.
